Beijing - Shenyang high speed line construction begins
CHINA: Construction of a 700 km Passenger-Dedicated Line linking Beijing and Shenyang in Liaoning Province began last month.
The project was approved in 2009, when work had been scheduled to start the following year. Construction is now expected to take five years and cost 124·5bn yuan. Boring of the 8·8 km Sanleng Mount Tunnel is scheduled to take 31½ months.
The alignment will be suitable for 350 km/h, and on completion journey times would be halved to around 2½ h.
